Annual Chimney Sweeping Keeps Your Family Safe

Getting your chimney swept is more about keeping your family safe than about keeping the chimney clean. Fortunately, inspecting and sweeping your chimney is the number one way to prevent fire and other damage to the unit and to keep you and your family safe.

We also know that an educated and informed customer understands the economic realities of doing routine annual maintenance versus the cost of letting the system run down to a point of needing more expensive repairs.   Because we are now able to easily view the inside of the chimney appliance, we can identify what needs to be addressed now.

What to Expect from Santa’s Friend

We take entering and working in your home very seriously. That’s why every one of our chimney sweeps undergoes a stringent background check. We want you to rest assured that the person coming into your home will treat it like their own. We also make sure all our sweeps:

  • Are certified by the CSIA (Chimney Sweeps of America)
  • Undergo annual training to stay on top of the latest chimney techniques and technologies

We want you to know exactly what we do. That’s why we suggest everyone watch the video above put out by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) showing you what Santa’s Friend Chimney Service will do when sweeping your chimney. It is also beneficial to take a look at the glossary at the top of the video pane as well. There is a picture of the way the average fireplace and chimney system is built, which is good to know.

Won’t This Mess Up My House with Soot?

Ah, yes. The number one question is always about the potential mess made when sweeping a chimney. However, there are multiple steps we take to insure your home stays as clean as or cleaner than when we arrived. So there is no mess and we guarantee it!

Here is what we do when you invite us into your home to work on your fireplace and chimney system:

  1. We place tarps on the hearth in front of the fireplace to protect your floors.
  2. We set up a dust collector so no soot escapes into your home.
  3. We brush and sweep the inside of the firebox, the walls and floor, then all the way to the chimney top.
  4. Both the damper and assembly are cleaned and adjusted.
  5. We use brushes attached to rods to sweep the length of the flue while hand brushes are used on the smoke chamber. The dust collector is a vacuum with a triple layer HEPA filter and we run it the entire time to control dust.
  6. Then a visual inspection takes place both inside and outside of the chimney. Mortar work, brickwork and crown are all checked for damage or erosion. Anything we see that requires repairs now or possibly in the future are notated with photos so you have a clear picture of what’s going on.
  7. If we see issues that need to be addressed, we will supply you a written evaluation and estimate of recommended work. This is only for problems we believe need to be addressed.
  8. We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and this includes leaving your home as clean as or cleaner than when we started the work. (Homeowner must be present at time of service).
  9. We can schedule your next year’s inspection and sweeping as well since it is recommended by the CSIA that this service be done annually. Santa’s Friend follows the recommendations of the CSIA.

If you would like to watch while we clean, you are welcome to do so. In fact, we encourage you to be present and ask any questions you may have when we sweep your chimney.  We look forward to the opportunity to serve you, our Central Mississippi neighbors.

When you invite us out to sweep your chimney, we can also conduct chimney inspections to determine if other issues need to be dealt with. It’s all part of the fireplace and chimney services that we provide.
